The regular five-day-a-week series was picked up by the fledgling network ABC. It debuted on June 28, 1965 and continued through March 31, 1967. The show was probably responsible for a dramatic drop in extra-curricular school activities, since millions of kids rushed home to catch their favorite show right after classes ended!

FEATURED PERFORMERS: Paul Revere & the Raiders, Steve Alaimo, Linda Scott, Keith Allison, Tina Mason, The Hard Times, The Robbs, and the Action Kids. The Action Kids were: Lesley Evans, Jeri Lyn, Mike Williams, Ted Leplat, Roger Minami, Roberta Tennes, Pete Menefee, and Jill Gordon. Jill's husband was drummer Jim Gordon, who played on many Raider sessions.

The Raiders released their JUST LIKE US! album at the height of the Where the Action Is frenzy, and it quickly went Gold. Including their top hits Steppin' Out and Just Like Me, it's now on CD with bonus tracks.

THE ACTION TV THEME SONGS

The pilot had its own "ACTION" theme song, not used on the later shows. The series' TV theme song was "ACTION", written by Tommy Boyce and Steven Venet, was performed by Freddy "Boom-Boom" Cannon. It was used at the beginning of the show. At the end of the show, another "ACTION" song was used. "ACTION" was also recorded by the Raiders on their second Columbia album "JUST LIKE US!" (1965).

The opening theme song was later changed to a different one - "ACTION ACTION ACTION", written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. It was performed by Keith Allison (the Paul McCartney look-alike who became the Raiders' guitar player in 1969) "ACTION ACTION ACTION" was on Keith's Columbia album, "Keith Allison in Action".
