TODAY's
"DEEP DIVE"
FREE TRADE
No trade wars over music! Today, Mark broadcasts a tariff-free show with one of your favorite themes - the give and take of music across the Atlantic.
Mark's got two hours of music reflecting the influence of
British musicon that of America, and vice versa.
He also mentions the huge Julien's rock and roll memorabilia auction
that's online right now and ends on November 20.
Mark has 69 lots in it.
More details HERE.
CLUB A-GO-GO - Mark opened the first set with the Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul performing this Animals tune. The Animals performed ii on Hullabaloo in 1965. Above are some examples of the history of the Newcastle, UK club that inspired the song. It opened in 1963, and the Animals' predecessor group The Alan Price R&B Combo was the Sunday night house band. Eric Burdon is pictured performing at the club in his pre-Animals days.
DON'T BOTHER ME - Mark played the Smithereens cover of this Beatles tune in the set devoted to the Fab Four's influence.
ITCHYCOO PARK - Mark devoted the third set to The Small Faces, and played the Hollywood Vampires' cover of this hit.
TRY TOO HARD - The Dave Clark 5 influence was covered in the fourth set, with Mark playing Mississippi's The Gants' cover of the DC5 hit. Below you'll also find a bonus video of the Raiders performing the tune on Where The Action Is.
SHE'S NOT THERE - Mark paid tribute to The Zombies in Set 5, and played a cover of this tune by Santana.
ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT - The Kinks were featured in Set 6, when Mark played a cover of this tune by The Knickerbockers.
HOLD ON! - Mark chose this tune from the movie of the same name to show the influence of Herman's Hermits. He chose to play a cover by The Stool Pigeons in Set 7.
MISS YOU - Mark closed the show by featuring The Rolling Stones in Set 8. He played a HOT cover of the song by Etta James.
NEWSFLASH:
Mark has moved to Hawaii, and as hinted earlier, has consigned some of his rarest memorabilia to a prestigious auction house. Julien's has put together a huge rock and roll memorabilia auction, including 69 lots from Mark.
It features many Raider acetates (with digital transfers done by Keith Allison's son Ryeland and sent to your email address, with the physical materials sent to you by Julien's), stage apparel, a guitar, a flute and trumpet used on stage in the early 60s, the tambourine used on the recording of Kicks, and many other goodies, including the desk from Cielo Drive where Mark wrote the lyrics to many of the Raiders' hits and dozens of album tracks. Terry Melcher owned the desk and later gave it to his mom Doris Day, so it has an amazing provenance.
Bidding has just opened online, and culminates with a live auction in Nashville on November 20th. Check out all 69 lots of Mark's memorabilia HERE.
Here is the link to the six lots of ACETATES (with accompanying sound files) that are in the auction. They include unreleased and alternate recordings.
Some of the links on this page may be affiliate links, from which we may receive a small commission, but that does not influence what Mark plays on the show or elaborates on here in the Deep Dive.
