MARSHMALLOW WORLD - Darlene Love started the show off today with her classic 1963 song about the white stuff.
NEW YORK'S A LONELY TOWN - Mark played this 1965 Tradewinds tune in first set.
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' - Mark selected the original recording of this song by Barry McGuire - with the same track and background vocals used on the Mamas and Papas hit. Here are both versions to compare
WINTER TIME - Mark played this Steve Miller Band tune in set number 3. Here they are performing it live
in Chicago in 2008.
in Chicago in 2008.
IT'S COLD OUTSIDE - Mark closed Set 4 with Cleveland's The Choirs and talked about their connection to The Raspberries.
RIDERS ON THE STORM - Mark chose the Doors' Sunset Sound Studio demo of the song for the fifth set.
PURPLE SNOWFLAKES - Mark played this Marvin Gaye tune in Set Six.
NOTHIN' SHAKIN' - Mark played this Eddie Fontaine rockabilly hit in the seventh set today and told the story of his wild and adventurous life. Eddie also was an actor and is pictured above on a Happy Days episode, where he played the part of The Fonz's father. Eddie's original, followed by a live clip of the Beatles covering it at a live gig.
IT'S NOW WINTER'S DAY - This Tommy Roe ode to winter - and love - was included in Set Eight. Above: Chris Montez and Tommy with some friends in London in 1963, as well as getting carried away by the Raiders' road manager, Hoss
SKYWAY - Closing with The Replacements, a band from Minneapolis, Mark dedicated the final song of the show to the good people of that city, who've had to endure frigid, pretty snowy, and horrifically icy conditions this winter.
THANKS to everyone who bid on Mark's memorabilia in the Julien's auction in November, and congratulations to the winners! We accidentally packed some acetates so they went to Hawaii instead of Julien's. We'll have Ryeland Allison transfer them after the holidays, so keep an eye on this website for news on their posting.
