This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
GOIN' TO MEMPHIS
This weekend, Mark will play two hours of the best American music with a Memphis connection, and we'll also highlight the career of Terry Manning.
MARK IN MEMPHIS - Mark lived in Memphis for two years and sometimes sat in at the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street. In 1989/90, he recorded a project at KIVA Studio with another ex-Raider lead singer, Michael Bradley. They also did a benefit concert at the Overton Shell to kick off a new recycling program in Memphis - which funded the city's very first recycling truck! You can get the personalized CD HERE, along with other memorabilia.

TERRY MANNING - Mark paid tribute to this Memphis artist/songwriter/engineer/producer throughout the show. Here's an interview where Terry discusses RODE mics. Mark exclusively uses a RODE-USB mic to record AMERICAN REVOLUTION, and as a fellow "mic snob", agrees with Terry on the quality and performance.
You can read the Stax Museum tribute to Terry's life HERE, and see the tribute by Entertainment Insider below. Mark played a track from Terry's West Texas Skyline tribute to Bobby Fuller to open the show today (Not Fade Away), and you can hear the title track below.

WHAT A MAN - Mark played this Linda Lyndell song to open Set 2, and told the story of Linda's immediate retirement industry following its release on Stax in 1968. She was overwhelmed with threats from the KKK and other white supremacists who objected to a white Southern girl singing R&B.

I DON'T WANT NOBODY (TO LEAD ME ON) - Mark played this tune from the Raiders' 1968 GOIN' TO MEMPHIS album in the sixth set.

THE HOT DOGS - Mark played this Memphis band in the seventh set. They were produced at Memphis' Ardent Studios by Terry Manning, who also co-wrote and played guitar on the song.
