This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
THIS WEEK IN MUSIC HISTORY
A lot happened in the world of music around today's date over the years. So, this weekend, Professor Lindsay will teach class by playing two hours of the best American music that's tied into this week of April...back then.
SAVE THE COUNTRY - Mark recorded this Laura Nyro tune for the Raiders' Collage album in late 1969.

RICHARD BERRY AND LOUIE LOUIE - We're celebrating his birthday this week, and before the first set, Mark told the story of the 1985 attempt to get the State of Washington to make Louie Louie its official song. He played the Kingsmen's version in the show, but did you ever hear the Beach Boy's version? Or Tom Petty's? Or Iggy Pops'?

JUST DROPPED IN (TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN) - Mark played this song by Kenny Rogers & The First Edition to open the third set. Take a listen to hear what Kenny sounded like before he dropped his harder, psychedelic edge. Wow.

THEY DON'T KNOW - Mark played these R'n'R HOF Influencers to start the sixth set, and also talked about Steve Cropper's tribute to them....available HERE.

ALMOST CUT MY HAIR - Mark played this CSN&Y song in the fifth set, and talked about David Crosby's arrest in Dallas. Here's a live version from 1974.

LAUGH AT ME - Mark played this song in the sixth set and told the story of Singer-Songwriter-Producer-Mayor-Congressman Sonny Bono. I'm sure you can recognize the sound of Hal Blaine's drums.

SLIPPIN' AND SLIDIN' and STAND BY ME - In the sixth and seventh sets, Mark played covers of two songs that John Lennon sang at his very last public performance on April 18, 1975. Here's a recently recovered snippet from that show, which was a tribute to a Ukrainian/British media magnate.

NEWSFLASH:
Mark lived on the island of Maui for 8 years, and - ever the wanderer - has purchased a new place in Hawaii and decided to move back there very soon...potentially as early as this August, to as late as January. (The timing depends on extensive dental work for his cat Six which, due to his heart condition, can only be done at a few veterinary universities in the US, and he's waiting for an appointment.)
What does this mean? Mark is parting with nearly ALL of his memorabilia with the exception of his gold Raider/solo albums and 2 guitars. He's not going to take up half a ocean container to take it with him, nor to rent climate-controlled space to protect his collection from the ravages of salt and humidity as he did when he lived on Maui. Nor does it make sense to leave it all boxed up forever.
So...he's putting together a large memorabilia sale at a prestigious celebrity auction house very soon. That most special memorabilia will need to be packed up by the last week of April to be delivered to the auction house. It will include his Doris Day desk that started out as his writing desk at Cielo Drive, his saxes, a guitar, other gear, stage or TV-worn apparel, and much more.
And...after the move, the store will be very limited in size, with just a few autographed CDs and possibly photos, and he will not do personalizations or phone calls after that. If you want to be sure of having memorabilia with an autograph personalized to YOU, please try to get it very very soon. Ditto for any apparel or rare memorabilia on the website, since that will definitely be pulled to go to the auction. BTW the auction pieces will have a reserve price of the current store price.
We're adding lots more personally autographed goodies every day to
Mark Lindsay's Music & Memorabilia Shop, so be sure to stop by SOON for your last chance to add to your collection.
