TODAY's
"DEEP DIVE"

Picture

 SAN FRANCISCO SOUND
The inspiration for this weekend's theme came from the very first Monterey Folk Festival, held on May 17, 1963. Among the performers were Bob Dylan, with one album under his belt and making his debut West Coast appearance, as well as a young female singer who was about to make it big - and not with folk music. Mark will be playing two hours of the best American music that emanated from
the City By The Bay.

What did you get YOUR Mom on her special day?
This is what Elvis gave his mom for Mothers' Day 1955.

MIDNIGHT WINE - Mark closed the first set with Shannon and The Clams, with Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys producing.

HERE COMES THE SUN - The Raiders and Byrds, along with Bo Diddley and The Duchess, toured with We Five in 1965, and Mark played their Beatles cover in the second set. Here they are performing the hit that got them the gig.

WHITE RABBIT - In the fourth set, Mark played Jefferson Airplane, the first SFO band to really make it big around the world. He described their appearance on the Smothers Brothers TV Show, which was the first time many Americans were treated to such a cosmic light show.

PIECE OF MY HEART - Mark told the story of Janis at the Monterey Folk Festival AND the Monterey Pop Festival, why Clive Davis gave her a contract, and played this song to open set 5. Here she is performing it live in Germany in 1969.

SCOTT McKENZIE - Mark played CELESTE to showcase more of Scott (since everyone has heard SAN FRANCISCO a zillion times), but here it is...

NEWSFLASH:
Mark  lived on the island of Maui for 8 years, and - ever the wanderer - has purchased a new place in Hawaii and decided to move back there very soon...potentially as early as this August, to as late as January. (The timing depends on extensive dental work for his cat Six which, due to his heart condition, can only be done at a few veterinary universities in the US, and he's waiting for an appointment.)

What does this mean? Mark is parting with nearly ALL of his memorabilia with the exception of his gold Raider/solo albums and 2 guitars. He's not going to take up half a ocean container to take it with him, nor to rent climate-controlled space to protect his collection from the ravages of salt and humidity as he did when he lived on Maui. Nor does it make sense to leave it all boxed up forever.

So...he's putting together a large memorabilia sale at a prestigious celebrity auction house very soon. That most special memorabilia will need to be packed up by the last week of April to be delivered to the auction house. It will include his Doris Day desk that started out as his writing desk at Cielo Drive, his saxes, a guitar, other gear, stage or TV-worn apparel, and much more.

And...after the move, the store will be very limited in size, with just a few autographed CDs and possibly photos, and he will not do personalizations or phone calls after that. If you want to be sure of having memorabilia with an autograph personalized to YOU, please try to get it very very soon. Ditto for any apparel or rare memorabilia on the website, since that will definitely be pulled to go to the auction. BTW the auction pieces will have a reserve price of the current store price.

We're adding lots more personally autographed goodies every day to
Mark Lindsay's Music & Memorabilia Shop, so be sure to stop by SOON for your last chance to add to your collection.
