LUCILLE - Mark kicked off the show today with this tune by JJ Barnes, who took bandmate Edwin Starr's advice and headed to the UK to seek his fortune. This is a 1966/67 Northern Soul track which was finally released almost 5 decades later.
POISON IVY - Mark opened the first set with this tune originally written for The Coasters, and later covered by the Stones. He recounted Jerry Leiber's story behind the girl he called Ivy. Here are live versions from both groups, with Rob Reiner introducing the Coasters in a 1983 documentary
LITTLE EGYPT - Mark selected another song that the Coasters recorded first - with lyrics by Jerry Leiber - to close Set 2. Elvis covered it in his movie ROUSTABOUT.
CAROLINE NO - Mark played this Brian Wilson/Beach Boys song in set number 3. Here's Brian with a live performance from 2002 at The Royal festival Hall in London.
DENISE - Mark played this Randy & The Rainbows song to open Set 4.
SHARON - Mark chose this rare version of an early Raiders tune - titled after Revere's second wife - to open the fifth set. If you weren't aware what a great lady she was, please read about her legacy HERE
MIXED UP SHOOK UP GIRL - Mark played this Pattii & The Emblems song in Set Six.
RUBY BABY - Mark played this Dion song in the seventh set today, and used a version from his 2007 New Masters album. Here's young Dion singing live in a 1963 Dick Clark show.
LOUISE - Mark picked this Raider tune from The Spirit of 67 to close the last set. Here's Mark singing it live to a pre-recorded track on Where The Action Is.
WHAT'S THE NEW MARY JANE? - Mark closed the show with this Weeklings' cover of a John Lennon tune originally meant for The White Album. An early take is below.
