TODAY's
"DEEP DIVE"
SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT
Although we haven't hit the Summer Solstice yet,
summertime entertainment is just kicking off.
Strap yourself into the front seat of the roller coaster as Mark plays
two hours of the best American music about fairs, festivals, circuses, and more.
TAKE ME TO THE FAIR - Mark opened the show with a song from the soundtrack of Elvis' 1963 movie, It Happened At The World's Fair." Elvis filmed part of the movie at Seattle's Century 21 Exposition World's Fair in September 1962.
Below: Elvis on a break at the fair; a scene from the movie featuring (in addition to Elvis) dinner at the top of the Space Needle with Mount Rainier in the background. Plus, the trailer from the movie. The little girl in the movie grew up to become First Lady of Hawaii!

BERRY PARK/GO GO GO - Chuck Berry hit it big and decided to open up his own theme park, Berry Land. He purchased the property in 1957, and the park opened on May 31, 1961. It featured a guitar-shaped swimming pool, a ferris wheel, a miniature golf course, something called "children's BBQ pits", and more. (Beware: the "photos" of it on the internet are fake - there are no palm trees in Missouri!) With Chuck's legal troubles, it closed as an amusement park within a year, although he did hold events there after he got out of jail. Mark played GO GO GO in the third set, since it was released during Chuck's days of theme park entrepreneurship.

SKIPPER DAN - Mark opened the seventh set by playing this Weird Al song, about a struggling actor who's becoming resigned to his life as the captain of a tour boat on Disney's Jungle Cruise - based on a true story after Al took his family there.

NEWSFLASH:
Mark lived on the island of Maui for 8 years, and - ever the wanderer - has purchased a new place in Hawaii and decided to move back there very soon...most likely in late July.
The timing depends on extensive dental work for his cat Six which, due to his heart condition, can only be done at a few veterinary universities in the US, which will be sone in early June. Then in order for the cats to qualify for direct airport release instead of quarantine, because of Hawaii's strict rabies-free entrance requirements, they have to wait to enter 30 days after their blood test results are finished at a lab in Kansas...which we're still waiting on.
What does this mean? Mark is parting with nearly ALL of his memorabilia with the exception of his gold Raider/solo albums and 2 guitars. He's not going to take up half a ocean container to take it with him, nor to rent climate-controlled space to protect his collection from the ravages of salt and humidity as he did when he lived on Maui. Nor does it make sense to leave it all boxed up forever.
So...he's putting together a large memorabilia sale at a prestigious celebrity auction house later this year. That most special memorabilia will need to be packed up by the end of June to be delivered to the auction house. It will include his Doris Day desk that started out as his writing desk at Cielo Drive, a guitar, other gear, stage or TV-worn apparel, and much more.
And...after the move, the store will be very limited in size, with just a few autographed CDs and possibly photos, and he will not do personalizations or phone calls after that. If you want to be sure of having memorabilia with an autograph personalized to YOU, please try to get it very very soon. Ditto for any apparel or rare memorabilia on the website, since that will definitely be pulled to go to the auction. BTW the auction pieces will have a reserve price of the current store price.
We're adding lots more personally autographed goodies every day to
Mark Lindsay's Music & Memorabilia Shop, so be sure to stop by SOON for your last chance to add to your collection.
