This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
SOUNDS OF SUMMER
It's finally here! (Sorry about the heat dome...)
Mark's got two hours of the best American music
to celebrate the season.
[Hawaii, 1967]
SCHOOL'S OUT - Mark opened the show with Alice Cooper's anthem of summer freedom. Did you know he performed it with The Muppets?

HEY BABRO - Mark played this Raider tune - a true story - in the first set. Babro was later immortalized on tthe Hard'n'Heavy album later...and Mark DID visit her in Sweden.

WRAPPED IN SUNSHINE - Mark played the new Dollyrots singled to open the second set, and wished Kelly Ogden a Happy Birthday - as well as a speedy recovery from a stage accident in his birthplace of Eugene, Oregon, where she ended up needing 15 stitches in her knee - YIKES! But ever the trooper, Kelly got right back on stage the next night and continued their West Coast tour.

C'MON AND SWIM - Mark closed the second set with Bobby Freeman, and a tune he sang on the pilot for Where The Action Is. Mark told the story of the suits at CBS who didn't "get it." Here's the whole un-aired pilot, filmed in January 1965.

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE - Mark played the Don & The Goodtimes version of the Beatles classic in the third set. The Raiders had a big connection with the group - they shared 3 members with PR&R: Pete Ouillette, Charlie Coe, and Jim Valley. Here's the band interviewed by Dick Clark on American Bandstand.

WILDWOOD MOON - Mark played this Steve Conte tune about the Jersey Shore to close the fourth set. Here's Steve's official video, and a 1960 tourism film.

PALISADES PARK - Mark opened the fifth set with his old pal Freddy Cannon, and the song Chuck Barris wrote about the iconic New York City area park.

JEREMY TEPPER - Mark closed the final set with a tribute to the legend who helmed Little Seven's Outlaw Country channel since its inception 20 years ago. Sadly, Jeremy passed this week at the age of 61.
OVER THE RAINBOW - Mark ended the show by playing the classic Oz song, as performed by iconic Hawaiian singer, "IZ."
