TODAY's
"DEEP DIVE"

Picture
BRITISH INVASION
Sure, they sent us lots of groovy songs...but it wasn't a one-way trip!
Mark is devoting the show to two hours of the best American music
illustrating the give and take of UK and US artists.

Picture

ELEANOR RIGBY - Mark kicked off the show today with Alice Cooper

Picture

SWEETS FOR MY SWEET - First it was recorded by the Drifters, then The Searchers found it. Mark played this 1964 Raiders' cover in the first set, where they added a little Louie, Louie twist. That's Mike "Doc" Holladay on bass.

Picture

LOVE POTION NUMBER 9 - Mark selected this Clovers->Searchers tune for Set 2.  The Coasters served up this cover in 1971. Mark loves the feel of this one!

Picture

I GOTTA MOVE - Mark played this Johnathan Pushkar Kinks cover in set number 3.

Picture

A GROOVY KIND OF LOVE - Mark played this Sonny & Cher cover of the Mindbenders hit in Set 4.

Picture

GLAD ALL OVER - Mark chose this Dave Clark Five hit, as reimagined by Joan Jett, John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, and Billy Joel, for Set 5. Here's a look at that motley crew, as well as a trip back to the DC5 era.

Picture

THIS OLD HEART OF MINE - Mark played this song by one of its songwriters, Lamont Dozier, in Set Six. The Isley Brothers cut it first, and Rod Stewart had a huge hit in 1975.

Picture

COOL IT (WE'RE NOT ALONE)  -  Co-written by Kenny Young (Arizona, Silver Bird), this American Breed tune was in the seventh set today. The Fortunes covered it later.

Picture

DOO WAH DIDDY - Mark picked this Exciters tune for the eighth set, so you can hear why Manfred Mann decided to cover it.

Picture
LET 'EM IN - Mark closed the show with a Dr. John cover of this Paul McCartney and Wings tune. Here's a twofer:

THANKS to everyone who bid on Mark's memorabilia in the Julien's auction in November, and congratulations to the winners! We accidentally packed some acetates so they went to Hawaii instead of Julien's. We'll have Ryeland Allison transfer them after the holidays, so keep an eye on this website for news on their posting.
