This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
INDEPENDENCE DAY
We'll keep the fireworks going through the weekend, and Mark will play two hours of the best American music celebrating the red, white, and blue - and of course, the food that goes along with it!
BREAK AWAY - Mark opened the show with the Beach Boys and a tongue in cheek song to celebrate the colonies "breaking away" from England. Check out the their performance on Germany's Beat Club, which opens with a mention of The Raiders and shows a poster from the BB/PRR European tour.

HONGRY/HUNGRY - Mark played this 1965 song by the Coasters to close the first set. It was spelled HONGRY back then, but was called HUNGRY when it was later released on the It Ain't Sanitary album. It was written by the Brill Building team of Leiber and Stoller, and you might wonder if another Brill Building team (Mann-Weil) thought, "THAT'S a great title for a song, but what if we...." And in 1966, the Raiders had a hit with it.

SING YOUR OWN SONG - At the end of the second set, Mark played this song which he and Perry Botkin wrote as a commercial project for Anheuser-Busch in 1976, the year of the Bicentennial, and told the story of how it came to be. The record shown above is one of the rarest Mark Lindsay recordings in existence.
