Mark has moved to Hawaii, and as hinted earlier, has consigned some of his rarest memorabilia to a prestigious auction house. Julien's has put together a huge rock and roll memorabilia auction, including 69 lots from Mark.

It features many Raider acetates (with digital transfers done by Keith Allison's son Ryeland and sent to your email address, with the physical material sent from Julien's in Los Angeles), stage apparel, a guitar, a flute and trumpet used on stage in the early 60s, the tambourine used on the recording of Kicks, and many other goodies, including the desk from Cielo Drive where Mark wrote the lyrics to many of the Raiders' hits and dozens of album tracks. Terry Melcher owned the desk and later gave it to his mom Doris Day, so it has an amazing provenance.

Bidding has just opened online, and culminates with a live auction in Nashville on November 20th. Check out all 69 lots of Mark's memorabilia HERE.

BONUS OFFER: Should you purchase any item from Julian's that is paper-based, i.e. unframed photos, contracts, flyers, or other paper memorabilia, Mark will be happy to sign them to you. We'll make arrangements to have you ship it to us in Hawaii (insurance is your responsibility) and send it back. Because some lots contain a large amount of individual items, there's a limit of 5 items PER LOT purchased for this offer.

Below is detailed information about the X lots featuring contracts, sheet music and lead sheets, and miscellaneous paper ephemera.

A large group of songwriters contract and corresponding lead sheets for Paul Revere & the Raiders songs, from the collection of Mark Lindsay, including:

A 1960s songwriters’ contract, signed by Lindsay for "Steppin’ Out," plus the sheet music used on tour. Also included is sheet music that Mark used on the 1987 SuperFest Tour.Lindsay wrote "Steppin’ Out" while living with his grandmother as a teenager, and finished it after he joined the Raiders. Terry Melcher produced it as a single for the Raiders’ Just Like Us album, and it charted at #46 in September of 1965. Lindsay and Revere signed the contract with Boom Music, their mutual publishing company.

A songwriters’ contract signed by Lindsay, a copyright registration, and original lead sheet related to the 1968 single "Too Much Talk."After being disillusioned with politicians talking about making changes but doing nothing, Mark wrote this song, and it was the very first one that he produced for the Raiders. The single charted at #19 in February 1968.

A 1968 songwriters’ contract signed by Lindsay and Revere for "Happening ‘68," together with the copyright registration.Lindsay wrote "Happening ’68" as the B side of "Too Much Talk," and was used as the theme song each week for the Dick Clark TV series hosted by Lindsay and Revere. "Terry Melcher 1967 Signed "The Legend of Paul Revere" and
"A Very Heavy Christmas Message" Songwriters' Contracts"

Two 1967 songwriters’ contracts, from the collection of Lindsay, one for "The Legend of Paul Revere" and one for "A Very Heavy Christmas Message," both signed by Terry Melcher and Mark Lindsay.
Lindsay and Melcher wrote "The Legend of Paul Revere" as the B side of Him or Me, which charted at #5 in April of 1967, and also wrote "A Very Heavy Christmas Message" the same year. Lindsay wrote the lyrics for both songs on the Cielo Drive desk offered in this sale.
In a direct quote from Mark Linsday, he shared of the Christmas album: "When Terry Melcher and I were putting the Raiders’ Christmas Present and Past album together in 1967, we decided to write an album that was a combined Christmas and Vietnam War protest album instead of recording just traditional tunes. We were invited to a party at influential radio programmer Bill Drake’s home, and presented an acetate of the album for his review. He put it on the turntable, skipped from track to track, screamed at us, and flung the disc so hard that it was impaled in his plush wallpaper. But the project is now considered a cult classic album."

LOT 198
"Paul Revere & the Raiders Ed Sullivan Show Schedule"

An original schedule from the April 30, 1967 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show (Sullivan Productions, 1948-1971), from the personal collection of Mark Lindsay. This is the original pink mimeographed schedule from that day’s dress rehearsal.
During the episode, Paul Revere & the Raiders performed their songs "Good Thing," "Ups and Downs," "Him or Me - What's It Gonna Be?", and "Kicks." The schedule also features appearances from Gilbert Price, the Muppets, Rich Little, Melina Mercouri, Jack Benny, and Edward Villelia & Patricia McBride.
Because April 30, 1967 was the first day guitarist Freddy Weller had joined the Raiders, Gloria Stavers from 16 Magazine used her clout to have the producers let Lindsay sing live to a pre-recorded track. Unfortunately, since that wasn’t the norm, the sound engineers forgot to start the track before Lindsay could sing. Before the performance of "Kicks," Sullivan can be heard yelling at the group to start the performance.
