Casanova, Mark, and a famous photographer?

I just started reading this book on Casanova's life. I'm not sure how it found its way to me, but I figured it was worth a try. All I knew was that Casanova bedded a lot of ladies, and well, basically I had previously branded him a "dog" of his era. I haven't gotten far enough into the book to recommend it or not, but so far he seems like quite a kind, nice guy (usually) who had some "issues". However, the reason I bring it up in the blog was that when I saw the photo in the frontispiece, I was immediately struck how much it resembled (in style, at least, not to mention ponytails) the famous profile shot taken of Mark for the Vogue layout in 1967. The Casanova drawing is an iconic representation of the man, and I wonder if the photographer was channeling some 60s rock star similarities when he posed Mark....hmmmm? ~ Deb

Mark and I had a few dates in 1966 and his long hair was one of the things my dad did not approve of. My dad was all military, flat top hair cut and all. I told Mark about this and when he came into my house, he made sure his ponytail was tucked under the collar of his corduroy jacket. Mark was so very polite, my dad immediately shook his hand, commented about the Maserati Mark was driving, but then told him "no funny business young man, have my daughter back by 11." I was on cloud nine, but mortified that dad would not show the "proper respect" for such a famous rock star! Of course my momma was secretly rooting for the best date I would ever have and would want to know every detail when I got home. I can say, it was an incredible time in my life to know Mark. He still makes my heart skip a beat ;~)

From the perspective of the 4 year old little sister of Natalee: I remember standing in my yellow footed sleeper pajamas and hiding behind our mother's legs. I saw Mark's pony tail and blurred out "Mommy he's a hippy!" to which I was instantly shhh'd by both our mother and my sister who I had just thoroughly embarrassed as if she wasn't already there. Hey what are little sister's for?
