MOTHER'S DAY 2026
Thanks, Mom! Glad to be here!

Picture

LET ME! - Mark kicked off the show today with this Raider tune, whose famous MAMAMAMAMAMAMAMA line might just have been inspired by a visit by Etta James to Happening 68 just before Mark wrote the song. Watch it and see why...

Picture

THAT'S ALL RIGHT - Mark closed the first set with this tune originally written and performed by Earl "Big Boy" Crudup, but played the 1954 Elvis version - his very first single.

Picture

HARPER VALLEY PTA - Mark selected the Clarence Carter "Boogaloo version" of the Jeanie C. Riley hit to close Set 2.  You can compare them below - and by the way, that's Roy Rogers and Dale Evans introducing Jeanie.

Note: the song even inspired a movie starring Barbara Eden as the wild Mrs Johnson!

Picture

YOU CAN'T HURRY LOVE - Mark played this Supremes hit in set number 3 - but twisted it up by playing an alternate, extended version.

Picture

MOTHER-IN-LAW - Mark played this Ernie K-Doe song to open Set 4, and talked about it being part of the early Raiders' live sets

Picture

THEME FROM IT'S HAPPENING - Mark chose this rare version of the theme WITH VOCALS - performed once on the Happening TV show, and finally released on a CD reissue decades later as a bonus track

Picture

LITTLE MAMA - Mark played this McGuinn, Clark, & Hillman song  in Set Six.

Picture

COME ON DOWN TO MY BOAT BABY  -  Mark played Every Mother's Son in the seventh set today.

Picture

THE LITTLE OLD LADY (FROM PASADENA) - Mark picked this Jan & Dean tune and told the story of its inception, at the same time that Dodge was launching a tongue-in-cheek advertising campaign. Kathryn Minner became the actual "little old lady from Pasadena", and appeared on the Dating Game as well as other TV shows, including Batman!

Picture
MOTHER LIKE MINE - Mark closed the show with The Band Perry and a song they wrote honoring their mother. He found their music when they released IF I DIE YOUNG, and loves Kimberly's voice and phrasing.

THANKS to everyone who bid on Mark's memorabilia in the Julien's auction in November, and congratulations to the winners! We accidentally packed some acetates so they went to Hawaii instead of Julien's. We'll have Ryeland Allison transfer them after the holidays, so keep an eye on this website for news on their posting.
