This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"

CBS STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD - Mark's home away from home. And where his name brings back memories of the day in 1969 when he was mixing the Raiders' Collage album and blew the circuits on the entire CBS complex, causing the news station to go off the air.
Little Richard's 1967 Okeh sessions at CBS Hollywood were produced by Larry Williams, who was also an artist in his own right. He wrote and recorded Short Fat Fannie in 1957 as an "answer song" to Long Tall Sally from the prior year, and he sold more than a million copies of it. The song was later covered by Little Richard, The Beatles, Johnny Winter, and others.
GOLD STAR - Mark talked extensively about different echo chambers on the show today, and how they "made" a studio's unique sound. Here's Bill Medley, and then Marky Ramone, talking about the one at Gold Star.
AMERICAN STUDIOS - Mark played the Raiders' 1968 version of I Don't Want Nobody, recorded at American and produced by Chips Moman, and also The Dynamics' 1969 version. But here's the FIRST version, by the Masqueraders in 1967, also recorded at American with Chips.
