This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
STORMY WEATHER
This week, we're thanking everyone that tried to keep us safe during Ian's visit to Florida and other parts of the East Coast, as well as all those whose efforts to help and rebuild are ongoing. Mark selected songs which tried to show that despite the very rough week many people experienced, our spirits can never be broken by a storm
- if we all work together.

DON'T LET GO - Mark opened the show with a version of Roy Hamilton's classic song. He dedicated it to all of the field reporters, like Jim Cantore pictured here, who gave us an up-close-and-personal view of the storm.
Mark produced and recorded his take on Don't Let Go in 2014 in New Jersey at House of Vibes studio. That's Kurt Reil from The Grip Weeds on drums and background vocals, Mike Fornatale on guitars, Mike Caruso on bass, and Mark on lead vocals, background vocals, and sax. It's available for the first time as a digital download via Mark's website at https://marklindsaymemorabilia.myshopify.com/products/dont-let-go , and you can hear a sample below.

WINDY - Mark played this Association hit i the second set and told the story of how Larry Ramos - unbeknownst to Mark - lived up in the same neck of the woods as him in a remote part of Idaho. Larry showed up at the house one day when Mark was recording in California, and asked Mark's wife Deb if he was home. Now, Larry was dressed in Idaho garb (read: northwoods casual) and introduced himself as being from the Association. As it happened, the Lindsays were expecting a visit from someone from an Idaho Forestry Association to discuss their 7 acres of Lodgepole Pines, and Deb assumed Larry was from THAT Association. What followed was a rather bizarre conversation. Larry kept asking Deb if her husband was there, Deb wasn't going to tell a rough-looking stranger (and possible axe-murderer) who showed up unannounced in the middle of nowhere that she was ALONE and kept directing the conversation back to trees, which he was NOT interested in. Larry, no doubt, thought she was a completely crazy woman and wondered what Mark had gotten himself into. But, it all got straightened out and they both eventually had a big laugh. And yes, Mark and Larry eventually got together up there!
SHAKE ME, WAKE ME (WHEN IT'S OVER) - Mark closed the second set with this Four Tops tune, and mentioned that Barbra Streisand had recorded a disco version - and here it is....Barbra as you've probably never heard her.

CATCH A WAVE - Mark ended the fourth set with the Beach Boys and this early tune, and told the story of living near the Jaws surfbreak in Maui, where stormy winter days brought house-shaking 70 foot waves. Read a bit more on that legendary spot HERE

MONEY - Before Mark played the Raiders' version of this song - from the Mojo Workout CD set - to open the fifth set, he told the story of driving through the Columbus Day Storm in 1962, so make sure you catch it on Sunday's replay or on demand in the app (available for 2 weeks). Then you'll know why the song is relevant to today's show!
Unfortunately, a huge "heritage" tree came crashing down in Paul Revere's yard in Wilsonville during the storm. Mark really enjoyed this book by John Dodge on that massive storm, and you can see more about it HERE
