BAD BOYS

This week we've got the spotlight on
the questionable antics
of the people with an X and Y chromosome.
Mark might know something
about that topic...

JUST SEVENTEEN - Mark opened the show with this bad boy autobiographical Raider song from Collage. At their 1969 concert in Missoula which inspired the song, Mark's turquoise jacket was stolen after he took it off on stage because it was extremely hot, but it was recovered a few days later. The coat was later used as a radio station giveaway, but Mark eventually found it again and displayed it at his Portland, Oregon restaurant. It now resides with a collector who cherishes it as part of an amazing vintage memorabilia collection.

STEVE POPOVICH - Mark played Have A Good Time (But Get Out Alive) by the Iron City Houserockers in the fifth set. The band was signed to Steve's label, Cleveland International Records. But Steve got his start as the Columbia Records promotion guy for Cleveland, and eventually Clive Davis named him as the first VP of Promotion for the label. He worked with Mark and the Raiders extensively and had a lot to do with the success of their records. Here's a shot of Steve with Stevie Van Zandt.

SMOKIN' IN THE BOYS ROOM - This was a last-minute substitution after Mark saw the suggestion when we announced this week's theme...so please make those suggestions! Cub Coda told Mark he thought it would be cool to mention the Raiders in the song, with Mark apparently the instigator...

A-checkin' out the halls makin' sure the coast is clear
Lookin' in the stalls, no, there ain't nobody here
Oh, my buddy Fang, and me and Paul
To get caught would surely be the death of us all

The song was later covered by Motley Crue, but they substituted their own band names in their version.

BIG BOY PETE
- In the eighth set, Mark played a version of this song by Kenny Vance & The Planotones. Of course, the Raiders had recorded it earlier. Here they are for contrast! And for a special treat, we'll end with a special clip of the Raiders performing it live on The Johnny Carson Show.
