BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
- In the second set, Mark played "Someday We'll Be Together Again" from Bruce's new album featuring covers of R&B and soul classics. You can find out more about his ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE project HERE, and you can watch the video of another track on the album, "Night Shift", below...

JAMES BROWN - Mark told the story in the fourth set of the James Brown song that....kind of wasn't! It was DJ Carlton "King" Coleman's lucky day when he was overdubbed as the lead vocalist instead of James on "(Do The) Mashed Potatoes" by producer Henry Stone in an undercover recording operation in Miami. Henry, by the way, was a business partner of Steve Alaimo from Where The Action Is.

THANK YOU - Mark opened the fifth set with this song from the ALIAS PINK PUZZ album, and told the story of Caroline ("I want to have your baby!" [with a French accent]) who was mentioned in the song. And the Teri in New York mentioned later? She was a model he met on the Mike Douglas Show.

MOUSE AND THE TRAPS - The seventh set included the classic "Maid of Sugar, Maid of Spice"

SWEET POTATO PIE - Mark included this song by San Diego's Charles Burton Blues Band in the last Thanksgiving set. You can find out more about Charles Burton HERE

THE TURKEY - The show ended with the cult classic "Raiders" tune, and Mark told the story of how it was recorded - gobbles and all - in Nashville by him, guitarist Tony Peluso, and drummer Tommy Jacobson. Tony and Tommy had just been part of Mark's backup band, Instant Joy, on a tour with The Carpenters. Tony was hired by Karen and Richard to be part of their band shortly thereafter, "The Turkey" notwithstanding. When Tony got a guitar as a kid, he didn't know quite what he was doing, so he tuned his guitar to F instead of E. That was what he continued to do throughout his career, and what gave him such a unique sound.
