This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY
Let's take a listen to some of the best American music
that's been included in video games!

MERCY DEE WALTON - Mark played this artist in the first set and told his story of going from the fields picking cotton in California in the forties to becoming a renowned blues artist. His FIVE CARD HAND was included in Mafia III, and ONE ROOM COUNTRY SHACK is now considered a blues standard.

THE AVENGERS - Mark played their version of PAINT IT BLACK in the second set. Here's another listen to this San Francisco based punk band's take on the Rolling Stones' classic hit.

CLIFTON CHENIER - Mark played AY-TETE FEE in the third set, since it was also included in Mafia III. Clifton was a Zydeco pioneer and became known as the King of Zydeco. He won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, and was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by The National Endowment For the Arts, the highest government fonor in folk and traditional arts.

96 TEARS - Mark played Question Mark & The Mysterians' 1997 Cavestomp recording of this song, although the original version was the one included in Mafia III. The photo above shows Sky Saxon from the Seeds, Miriam Miller from Norton Records, Mark, Bobby Balderrama (Mysterian), and Robert Martinez (Question Mark) at Cavestomp. Here's a live performance on a local Detroit TV show in 1966.
