This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
JOHN LENNON'S JUKEBOX
This weekend, we'll pay tribute to the songs that John selected for his 1965 KB Discomatic Jukebox. We'll play some originals and twist it around a bit with some cool covers of others. Above you'll see the original index card from John's machine, and below is an example of another Discomatic currently in a museum.
PAT BENATAR - Mark kicked off the first set with her version of the Fontella Bass hit, RESCUE ME, that's on FIRE!
THE RAIDERS - Mark played STEPPIN' OUT in the fourth set, and told the story of the mystery surrounding its inclusion on John's Jukebox. Was it really the Raiders 45 in slot #3, or was it this Jimmy McCracklin song? You decide!!
WILSON PICKETT - Mark opened the seventh set with IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR. Here's Wilson and the band on with Mark on Happening '68!
BIG MAYBELLE - Mark closed Set 8 with her ORIGINAL smokin' version of WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON, and mentioned her last hit, a cover of the Question Mark and The Mysterians' 96 Tears. Have a listen!
