This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
SPRING FORWARD
This weekend, Mark's ready for Spring and the arrival of sunlight just a bit earlier in the morning!
BIRDS OF A FEATHER - Mark opened the show with this Raider hit (their last one that cracked the Top 40) and talked about the history of the song. Below you'll find writer Joe South's version, one by The Winstons (of "Color Him Father" fame), one by Keith Allison (produced by Mark), and the Raider hit, also produced by Mark.
LOUIE LOUIE - Mark closed the second set with Rockin' Robin Roberts' version of the song, which was the one that both the Kingsmen and Raiders learned the song from. You can hear elements of RRR's version in both the K-men and PRR versions.
BAD SEED RISING - Mark played this teen band's song of the same name to open Set 3. Pat Benatar meets Joan Jett! WOW. Here's the official music video, featuring scene's from the movie "Spy."
SHE BRINGS THE RAIN - Mark opened Set 4 with The Grip Weeds and a song that was originally released on the German Twang! label, and then re-cut in 2008 for their Infinite Soul album on Wicked Cool Records.

BITTER FRUIT - Mark started Set 7 with Stevie Van Zandt.
"Here's my boss SVZ and my friend Andy Babuik with the handoff of the new guitar. Two of my favorite people in the world."
And here's the official music video for the song Mark played today .
AND THE GRASS WON'T PAY NO MIND - Mark closed the show with the fifth single from his solo career, which hit #44 on the Hot 100 and #5 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Neil Diamond wrote and recorded the song first, Elvis did it a few months later, and Mark released it the next year.
It's on Mark's Complete Columbia Singles CD, and you can get a PERSONALLY autographed copy HERE.
