This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
STAYING POWER
This week, we'll play the best American music
designed to get you feeling motivated!
GO GET IT - Mark opened the show with this Raiders song originally written and recorded for the 1968 Goin' To Memphis album. But the song wasn't one of the selections that made it to the "Final Eleven", so it had to wait to emerge from the vaults decades later, when Sundazed Records put out the (now out of print) Goin' To Memphis expanded CD.
BECAUSE I'M AWESOME - Mark started the first set with this The Dollyrots and a message you should give yourself every morning!
WORK OUT - The Fondas were Mark's choice to end the first set. Named after that Hollywood clan, and with a title like that, you KNOW we also have to include a Jane Fonda workout video! Buckle up for a trip to the 80s, baby...
I'M ALIVE - Mark opened the second set with this tune and a version by Johnny Thunder. It was written by Tommy James, who recorded it after Johnny. And Don Fardon (who recorded INDIAN RESERVATION before The Raiders) cut it as well. Here's Tommy and Don - and who doesn't covet Tommy's vest???!
DANCING ON THE LIP OF A VOLCANO - Mark opened the sixth set with The New York Dolls.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT: Mark closed the seventh set with this song by Joan Jett, which was the theme for a documentary of the same name. It featured the motivation behind, and the persistence of, the passionate people who ran a small Long island radio station - and changed music forever.
SIXTY MINUTE MAN - Mark closed the show with the ultimate test of Staying Power! He played a version by Duke and the Drivers, but here's the original version by Billy Ward and The Dominoes. And we'll follow it with the answer song they did next - CAN'T DO SIXTY NO MORE - a warning of what happens if you don't stay on top of your game!
