This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
FIRST ANNIVERSARY
This week, we'll play the best American music
that YOU requested!
Many thanks to everyone who sent in their favorites
IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR - Mark opened the show a rather unusual take on the Frank Sinatra classic. It's worth another listen...
BRISTOL STOMP - Without Little Steven, there'd be no Underground Garage (or American Revolution), so Mark celebrated his boss with this tune in the first set
KICKS - Mark opened the second set with Ricky Byrd's version of this Raiders song, and in the first video below, he tells the story of how The Underground Garage inspired him to record it.
IT AIN'T OVER - Mark loves The Black Keys and was excited to see this request, so he closed the second set with the song.
LOVE LACE - Mark opened the fourth set with a song from Dean Torrence's TEAMMATES album, released last fall. This is a 1973 recording written by Terry Melcher and Bruce Johnston, both of whom produced the Raiders in the 60s. Bruce sings the second verse and Terry sings the rest. We presume that Dean is on background vocals.
KAT'S MEOW: Even The American Revolution Interns (Six and Claire, Mark and Deb's Maine Coon kittens) got in a request, and Mark played their theme in the fourth set.
COMIN' HOME BABY - This song was a standard at early Raider gigs, and Mark closed the fourth set with it. Recorded at Columbia Records in September 1964, it was finally released decades later on the MOJO WORKOUT CD on Sundazed Records...and sadly, that's out of print.
PSYCHEDELIC GAS STATION - Mark played this Deadbeat Poets tune in the last set...a perfect neighbor for The Underground Garage!
THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW - Mark closed the show looking forward to the next year as host of AMERICAN REVOLUTION. The song was written by Drake Levin and Mike "Smitty" Smith, and sung by Smitty.
