This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
BRITISH INVASION, AMERICAN STYLE
This week, we're playing the American music that influenced,
or was influenced by, the music of the British Invasion!

BECAUSE - Mark focused on the Dave Clark Five in the first set, and he closed it with a duet he did with Susan Cowsill, from their LOVE IS STRANGE album. You can get a copy signed by both of them, and personalized to you by Mark, HERE.

TRY TOO HARD - The set also included The Gant's version of this DC5 song. Here's a clip of the Raiders doing it on Where The Action Is. And if you like the FANG button Harpo's wearing, you can get one of original 1965 buttons HERE.

IT WON'T BE LONG and THE WORD - Mark featured The Beatles influences in the second set, and played these songs by The Midnight Callers and The Weeklings, from the Jem Records John Lennon tribute album. It was recorded at the House of Vibes in New Jersey, so of course there's a Grip Weeds contribution. You can find the CD info HERE, and below is the Grip Weeds with YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
FOR YOUR LOVE - The third set was devoted to the Yardbirds, so Mark played this song he did with Cheap Trick's Rick Nielson and Tom Petersson. More info HERE.
SHE'S NOT THERE - The Knickerbockers kicked off the fourth set, which was all about the Zombies. Jerry Fuller, who produced many of Mark's solo recordings at Columbia, discovered the band.
ROUTE 66 - Mark featured the Rolling Stones in the fifth set, and ended the set with a song that they discovered when they heard a 1961 version by Chuck Berry, adding it to their live shows in addition to recording it. Mark played a version by The Cramps.
LISTEN PEOPLE - Mark focused the sixth set on Herman's Hermit's, and played The Outsiders' version of the song, with Sonny Geraci on lead vocal.
WILD THING - Mark featured Manfred Mann in the seventh set, and opened with the very first version of Wild Thing, by The Wild Ones. Manfred Mann recorded a rather unusual, mostly-instrumental version in 1966.
SUNNY AFTERNOON - The final set was devoted to The Kinks, and Mark played Dino, Desi, and Billy's version. They recorded the very first cover of the song.

YESTERDAY - Mark closed the show with his version of the most-recorded British Invasion song, which was part of a medley with LONG AND WINDING ROAD on his second solo album, Silverbird. We have TWO copies remaining of the out-of-print CD which includes both the Arizona album AND the Silverbird album, available HERE, autographed to you by Mark.
