This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
KISSIN' SUMMER GOODBYE
It's Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of the best season of all,
so we'll mark the transition with two hours of the best American music
all about the end of Summer.
GONE MOVIN' ON - Mark opened the show with the Raiders and this Lindsay-Melcher song which has THREE different versions. Terry Melcher produced the first version in 1967 for the REVOLUTION album, and Mark produced one version in 1970 for a single, and an alternate version for the COLLAGE album.
The REVOLUTION is available personally autographed to you...HERE. This is the special expanded European version which Mark has limited signing to just 30 copies.
The SINGLE version is available on the COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES, HERE.
Below are all three versions:
The first video below is the single version (also on COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES).

C'MON AND SWIM - Mark closed the second set with Bobby Freeman and one of the songs he performed on the pilot episode of WHERE THE ACTION IS. Recognize those guys in back as the house band?
Mark also mentioned that Martha and the Vandellas did a version of the song in the early days, but it remained unreleased for decades.
OOH POO PAH DOO - Mark was inspired to title this week's episode after a concert he did in September, 1997, in Portland, where he reunited on stage for the first time in 30 years with former Raiders Drake Levin, Phil Volk, and Mike Smith. This was one of the songs they performed that night.
As mark moved during the years, the leftover concert T-shirts got lost in storage periodically, but we have a few left, and they come with 10 photos from the rehearsal and show, personally autographed to you HERE in Large.
Drake and Smitty have since passed, but that night all 4 Raiders signed a litho which was custom-framed and hung in Mark Lindsay's Rock & Roll Cafe. It's available HERE.
IT'S ALL OVER NOW - Mark closed the last set with the original version of the Stones' first #1 U.S. hit, by The Valentinos.
NEVER CAN SAY GOOD-BYE - Mark closed the show with a song from his third solo album, You've Got A Friend. The song was intended for The Supremes, but it ended up with The Jacson Five, and Mark did his version in 1971.
At Right: Mark wearing his North Beach leather cape that he's shown wearing here before a 1966 concert in Rockford, IL.
Please check out
Mark Lindsay's Music & Memorabilia Shop,
where there's a special Labor Day (Monday, 9/4) event beginning at 3pm Eastern Time, when we drop a HUGE collection of goodies including this cape, the custom brocade jacket he wore at Carnegie Hall in 1971, the first (and original) professional photos taken of the Raiders in 1961, lots of other stage-worn apparel from the 70s to the 90s, Hawaiian and tropical shirts (some stage-worn) with part of the proceeds going to benefit Maui, and LOTS more goodies!
