This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
AMERICAN BANDSTAND
This weekend, Mark will feature
two hours of the best American music,
as you would have heard it on the show
during its 37 year run.
Dick Clark turned a local hosting gig
into a media empire over the years.
DON'T TAKE IT SO HARD - Mark opened the show with this Raider tune and told the story of performing it on Bandstand on July 13, 1968, one of many appearances that he and the band made on the show. That day, Mark and Paul also announced that they were the co-hosts of the new daily Dick Clark production It's Happening, which was premiering on ABC on July 15th.

The song is available on the out-of-print Raiders Complete Columbia Singles 3-CD set, available personally autographed to you HERE.
ELVIS - Mark opened the first set with
TEDDY BEAR, and explained that Elvis never appeared on AB, except via telephone from when he was in the Army and stationed in Germany. Dick called him three times in 1959/60 and broadcast the interview on the show.

THE BEACH BOYS - Mark closed the first set with DON'T WORRY BABY, performed on April 18, 1964, followed by an interview with Dick Clark.

FREDDY CANNON - Mark opened set three with WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS, and noted that Freddy held the record for most appearances on AB - 110 of them! The song was originally recorded in 1922, but Freddy made it his own. Here's Freddy's version, and one by Dean Martin in 1955!
