This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
DREAMING OF GILLIGAN'S ISLAND
This weekend, Captain Mark will feature
a two hour tour on the SS Minnow...
complete with Dream Sequences!
I HAD A DREAM - Mark opened the show with this Raider tune in order to set up the other dream sequence songs that would be sprinkled throughout the dhow. That's Wrecking Crew member Larry Knechtel doing the great organ parts.

The song is available on the out-of-print Raiders Complete Columbia Singles 3-CD set, available personally autographed to you HERE.
THEME FROM GILLIGAN'S ISLAND - Since the pilot and first episode of the show was filmed in Hawaii, Mark opened the first set with Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version, since it was the only one recorded in the islands.

Mark talked about the three different themes for the show - one for the pilot (The John Williams theme, sung by show creator Sherwood Schwartz), the first season (sung by The Wellingtons), and the second and third seasons (sung by the Eligibles.)

THE FEMALE CAST - In between the second and third sets, Mark discussed the actresses who played Lovey, Ginger, and MaryAnn in the series, and noted that Jayne Mansfield had been considered for the part of Ginger, and Raquel Welch for the part of Mary Ann. In the 1978 Rescue from Gilligan's Island movie, Judith Baldwin got the role of Ginger, beating out Cassandra Peterson...who was soon after offered a new role as a horror host called Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
THE MOSQUITOES - In between the fourth and fifth sets, Mark talked about the episode where that famous rock band descended on the island for a little time away from their adoring fans. It didn't go well, of course. The Wellingtons (the Shindig band that performed the first season's theme song) played the part of the band.

DREAM LOVER - Mark closed the fifth set with a version of the song that he performed in a duet with Susan Cowsill, available autographed by both of them, and personalized to you by Mark, HERE.
STAIRWAY TO GILLIGAN'S ISLAND - Mark closed the show with this 1978 mashup by Little Roger and the Goosebumps. Despite receiving a doctorate in cultural anthropology, Roger chose a career in music, and formed this band in San Francisco. They opened for many national acts at shows promoted by Bill Graham. They're pictured at a reunion in 2019.

He wore it every night on the Happy Together Tour that summer, and it's available with a selection of photos from that evening, in our shop.
