HAPPY BIRTHDAY...

To the Unsung Hero of Rock & Roll, Peter Carl Goldmark.
Born in Budapest, Hungary on December 2, 1902,
he invented the vinyl record and sapphire stylus. Mark will be playing two hours of the best American music to ever come out on vinyl -
back then, usually in boring black, or now, when the sky's the limit!

VALLEY FORGE - Mark opened the show with The Raiders, and a song that he and Terry Melcher wrote for the 1967 cult classic album, A CHRISTMAS PRESENT...AND PAST. It's available (on CD) HERE, personally autographed to YOU by Mark Lindsay.

DICK CAVETT
- Mark played this Marc Ribler single in the first set, available on 7" vinyl from Wicked Cool Records HERE in the New Year.

Mark talked about the introduction of 7" 45's on RCA, and how they were color-coded by genre. And here's a great video showing them in more detail:

THE HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE - Mark played this original version of the song by its Montana-born writer, Chan Romero, in the second set.

Mark talked about the "Highway Hi-Fi" invented by Mr. Goldmark, introduced in Chrysler cars in 1956. It used proprietary discs manufactured by Columbia Records, so there was a limited catalog, and it disappeared after 3 model years.

But, undeterred, in the 1960-1961 model year, Chysler re-visted the concept with a different version of in-car vinyl playback. This time, it was made by RCA, and took standard 45s.,

AIN'T NO CHIMNEYS IN THE PROJECTS
- Mark closed Set 3 with this song by Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. One of the reasons he chose it was to show how far the concept of vinyl records has come since Mr. Goldmark's early invention....here it is, in glorious candy-cane stripes.

I'LL BE DOGGONE - Mark opened the fifth set with this song from the Raiders' JUST LIKE US ALBUM. It came out in 1966 on black vinyl, but in 2016, Friday Music produced a Limited Edition 180 gram audiophile WHITE vinyl edition, We have one left in stock, available HERE with a phone call from Mark Lindsay. Here's your chance to have that bucket-list conversation with a rock and roll icon, usually lasting about 45 minutes. (Also available with the audiophile edition of the GREATEST HITS album, available HERE.)
