This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
REMEMERING DECEMBERS PAST...
AND PRESENT
It's the month when The Wright Brothers "Invented" flight,
the Sons of Liberty had a big party
and dumped all that pricy tea into Boston Harbor,
and Elvis reeased an album that became
the second-biggest soundtrack of the 60s.
And of course, it snowed...A LOT.
So..Mark will be playing two hours of the best American music
celebrating the events of December.
DECEMBER - Mark opened the show with Earth, Wind, and Fire, and the holiday version of their hit, SEPTEMBER.

CALIFORNIA POPPY PICKERS - Mark closed the first set with this California studio group put together by Gary Paxton, who was an early producer for the Raiders, and also the guy who did ALLEY OOP. Mark played their version of BACK IN THE USSR. The Wright Brothers never could have imagined an airline called called "BOAC" or flying to Russia!

SANTA'S GOT AN AIRPLANE - Mark closed Set 2 with this song by the Beach Boys, who FINALLY released it on the Ultimate Christmas album, available HERE. From their facial expressions on the album cover photo, looks like the boys got coal in their stockings!

REVOLUTION - To mark the Boston Tea Party revolt that occurred this weekend in 1773, Mark opened Set 3 with a version of the Beatles' song by Billy Gibbons and friends, available on their Butchering The Beatles album. You can get it HERE. And here's Billy recording the vocals for it.

SNOW - Decembers past brought an extremely rare inch of snow inch of snow to San Francisco, above left, and a blizzard to New York City. Mark played two sets to mark the events.
LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! - Mark opened Set 5 with this song, paid tribute to his favorite version, currently sitting at #12 on the Hot 100 - Congratulations to Dean Martin. Here's Dean's official video, and a tropical version where he's singing live with Shirley Jones...with nary a snowflake in sight.
