This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
HAPPENING '68
On January 6, 1968, the Dick Clark production of Happening '68 premiered, starring Mark Lindsay and Paul Revere as the the TV shows's co-hosts. Over its run, the show featured artists promoting and performing their latest records, a weekly Amateur Band Contest with celebrity judges, interviews with pop culture stars of the day, and news designed for the teen world.
On this weekend's broadcast, Mark will be playing two hours of the best American music using the songs performed on the show.
TELL MAMA - Mark closed the third set with this song. When Etta James performed it on the show, you can tell Mark was REALLY excited. He's a huge fan, and it was pretty obvious in the video!

AMATEUR BAND CONTESTS - Every week, 3 bands from around the country appeared on the show and competed for a groooovvvvy set of prizes, which Mark talked about in the radio show's sixth voice break. Here's semi-finalist MORNING REIGN from Salem, OR, and Panama City's GOLDEN MEDICAL DISCOVERY. Mark's producer enhance the audio from the GMD and Mark opened Set 6 with it. 99 - In the eighth set, Mark played this song by the agent who used that number, Barbara Feldon. Barbara's been a guest on the Happy Together tour, so their friendship continues. We have just SIX left of their Happening photo together, available personalized to you HERE by Mark.

TIME AFTER TIME - The Monkees (less Peter Tork) appeared on Happening on March 22, 1969...and things kind of got out of hand during the song. Mark asked Micky a few years ago if he remembered the event, and he said, "I'm told I had a good time..."

THE BEACH BOYS - Mark played WAKE THE WORLD to close the last set, and mentioned the bizarre performance on Happening. BTW, the Beach Boys were on the final show of the series.
