GEOGRAPHY 101
On January 13, 1968, the National Geographic Society was formed for the purpose of "the increase and diffusion of geographic knowledge."
So, on this weekend's broadcast, Professor Lindsay will be taking you on a
two-hour worldwide musical expedition,
courtesy of some of the best American artists he could find..

NORTH TO ALASKA - Mark opened the first set with this Johnny Horton song, from the movie of the same name, which starred John Wayne and Fabian. Sadly, Johnny was killed in a car wreck in Texas on his way to a gig, just the day after the song was released, and never saw its huge success.

BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX - Mark opened the third set with the original recording of the song by Johnny Rivers. He did a great job, but it took Glen Campbell to make it a massive hit. Here's Johnny's version, followed by Glen performing it live, with songwriter Jimmy Webb conducting.

DAY AFTER DAY (IT'S SLIPPIN' AWAY) - Mark closed the third set with this song about California's San Andreas Fault, by SHANGO. It was sung and co-written by Start Margolin. Although he also co-wrote LOVE AMERICAN STYLE and songs for Gary Lewis & The Playboys and Al Martino, he's probably most recognizable as "Angel Martin", Jim Rockford's shifty friend on The Rockford Files.

STRANDED IN THE JUNGLE - In the fourth set, Mark played The New York Dolls' 1974 cover of this song, originally released by The Jayhawks in 1956.

ARIZONA - Mark closed the final set with his first Top Ten record, written by Australian Kenny Young. It's on the COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES CD, which also includes the previously-unreleased REASON TO BELIEVE. You can get a copy HERE, personally autographed to you.
