This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
(Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit! )
We'll be celebrating the holiday American style,
with two hours of the best music originating in the U.S.A.
GOOD LUCK CHARM - Mark opened the show with this #1 hit from Elvis. During the show, he explained the derivation of the term "Luck of The Irish" - and it's probably NOT what you think.

THE SNAKE - Mark opened the second set with this Al Wilson tune, since legend has it that Saint Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. Since there WERE no snakes there, it's thought to be a metaphor for fighting paganism. Here's a rare video of Al performing it on a local TV shoe, "The Scene Show" in Oklahoma City, circa 1974.

THE GREEN DOOR - Mark also played this Jim Lowe song in the second set. Here's a rare version by Bill Haley

AND THE GRASS WON'T PAY NO MIND - Mark played his fifth solo single in the fifth set. It's on Mark's COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES, available personally autographed to you HERE.
Below, we've got Mark's version, as well as one by Elvis, where he's backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

EVERGREEN - Mark closed the final set with this song by Soraia. And if you’re LUCKY enough to be in Phoenix at The Crescent Ballroom this coming Tuesday (that would be March 19th), you can see Soraia, Slim Jim Phantom and The Wildcats, The Cocktail Slippers, and my old pal Andy Babuik and The Chesterfield Kings, with one of their first performances in 15 years. They’ll all be part of “Stevie’s After Party”…and it’ll get started right after Little Steven wraps up his show nearby with Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band, loads up his posse, and gets ready to rock some MORE at The Ballroom. Details are on any of the Underground Garage or Stevie Van Zandt sites.
