This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
RUN FOR THE ROSES
150 years ago, Meriwether Lewis Clark Junior, grandson of William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, started the race that's called The Kentucky Derby.
So...on today's show, Mark Lindsay will bring you two hours of
the best American music...all about the Run For The Roses.
Mark Lindsay has his own stable of thoroughbreds
ready to race on his own track!
ready to race on his own track!
FUGUE FOR TINHORNS AKA THE THREE-CORNERED TUNE / RIDE YOUR PONY - Mark opened the show with a two-fer - a clip from the musical Guys and Dolls, with a segue into the rarest Raider 45 ever - the 2012 Record Store Day release of the previously unreleased Allen Toussaint/"Naomi Neville" song that the Raiders recorded in 1966. It's available HERE as a personalized 45, or HERE as a bonus track on the JUST LIKE US CD. In addition to being the lead vocalist on the song, Mark also plays bari sax on it.

BABY YOU'RE A RICH MAN - Mark played this Weeklings cover to open the second set. Hopefully you placed your Derby bet on the winning horse!

MINT JULIP - Mark closed the third set with this great blues tune by retired UPS driver, Myron Barnett. There's so much talent everywhere...

ELECTRIFIED - Not the name of any racehorse we know, but it should be! It IS the new single from The Chesterfield Kings, though. The B side is a cover of The Byrds classic MY BACK PAGES.
