This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
MOTHER'S DAY
Who should be credited with the establishment of Mother's Day
as a national holiday? The answer isn't all that straight forward,
so tune in to hear what happened.
And on today's show, Mark Lindsay will bring you two hours of
the best American music...all suitable for celebrating mom's special weekend.
Mark Lindsay and his Mom (along with Dad)
HOT MOM WITH THE SKINNY PANTS - Mark opened the show with The Dollyrots and this tune sung by Mama Dollyrot Kelly Ogden. Happy Mother's Day to one of the coolest rock and roll Moms out there!

TRUE FINE MAMA - Mark played this Little Richard song to open the second set. Below, you can hear a live version from 1966.

ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE - Mark played the recent Bruce Springsteen cover of this song in the second set. He recorded it as a part of an album that was a tribute to great R&B songs of the past. Here's co-author Jerry Butler singing it live at The Rock Hall in 2008 at a celebration honoring Gamble & Huff, as well as Springsteen's version.

MAMACITA - Mark played one of his later solo records, a Mann-Weil tune, to open the fourth set. It's available on the Complete Columbia Singles, autographed personally to you, right HERE.

MOTHER-IN-LAW - Mark played this song by Ernie K-Doe in Set 7. More on Ernie's wild life HERE, and on his "Mother-In-Law Lounge" in New Orleans HERE. Mark and the Raiders included the song as part of their regular set list in the very early days. Enjoy the video set to the tune!

THEME FROM IT'S HAPPENING (VOCAL VERSION) - One of several songs that Mark wrote for the Happening TV series, this is the only one with extended lyrics. Mark and the band performed it ONCE on the TV show, then it disappeared back into the Columbia vaults, until Bob Irwin discovered it and added it to a Sundazed CD release of Hard'n'Heavy (With Marshmallow) in 2000. And big news - Mark will be adding it to at least one of his live shows in 2025!
