This Week's
"DEEP DIVE"
SECOND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
In mid-May 2022, Little Steven gave Mark a call and asked
he'd like to host a new show in The Underground Garage.
And two years later, on today's show, Mark Lindsay will bring you two hours of
his favorite American music...some of the current songs he enjoys, as well as some classics that influenced his music. And a few surprises!
JUMPIN' JACK FLASH - Mark opened the show with a cool "new" tune by The Midnight Callers, from the upcoming tribute album to Mick and Keith - it's out May 31st and you can pre-order it HERE!

BEEN TOO LONG ON THE ROAD - Mark closed the first set with this David Gates-penned song, one of the singles Mark released during his solo years. It's on his COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES CD, available personally autographed to you HERE.
Below you can listen to the original version by Bread, followed by Mark's.

POPSICLES AND ICICLES / GO AWAY - Mark played the Murmaids in both the second and fifth sets, and told their story under the "tutelage" of producer Kim Fowley. Yes, of course the got screwed and never saw a dime of royalties. The Ace Records compilation of original Murmaid recordings (along with fake groups) is available HERE.
And just as he'd done with the Raiders (LIKE LEATHERNECK, LIKE BLUEGRASS), neither The [real] Murmaids nor The Raiders knew he was putting songs out under their names.

LITTLE DEUCE COUPE - Mark closed the third set with the Beach Boys, and talked about their new documentary, which just started streaming on Disney+. A review from Variety says, "The result is a movie that a young person who knows nothing of the Beach Boys might find enthralling, and that an ultrafan like myself can still find immensely satisfying, because the film has an inquiring temperament." Sounds like a must-watch!

BLUE FOX - Mark ended the show with the B side of STEPPIN' OUT and told as much as he could of the story behind the Raiders' 1965 song. As described by a visitor during WW2, "it might just be the nastiest place on earth..."
Some parts of the Raider connection are better left unsaid! The song is available on the Raiders' [out of print] COMPLETE COLUMBIA SINGLES, available personally autographed to you HERE. That's Mark, Paul, Drake Levin on guitar, Mike Holladay on bass, and Smitty on drums.

ORBIT (THE SPY) - When the Russians launched Sputnik in 1957, Mark's interest in space soared to new heights. And when it came to writing a song for the Raiders' very first single, he drew on that fascination, and this is the result. That's Mark playing sax - including the wild opening notes.
